The Motor Sport Hall of Fame 2011
The 2011 Motor Sport Hall of Fame in association with TAG Heuer has been set for Tuesday February 15, less than four weeks ahead of the opening round of the Formula 1 World Championship.
This annual event at the Roundhouse in Camden, London, is now in its second year and is already regarded as one of the motor sport social occasions of the year. Celebrating and honouring the achievements of motor racing’s greatest luminaries, the event brings together a host of the sport’s personalities.
Already confirmed to attend the 2011 event are two of Motor Sport’s existing Hall of Fame members – Sir Stirling Moss OBE and one of Britain’s most respected Grand Prix drivers, Tony Brooks.
Hosted by F1 presenter Jake Humphrey, the evening will be a gathering of names and faces, with celebrity guests joining legends from the world of motor racing, making it a highly memorable occasion for the next inductees due to be announced on the night.
“The inaugural Hall of Fame event was a huge success,” said Motor Sport Magazine editor, Damien Smith. “The evening has become a real highlight on the motor racing social calendar. Motor Sport Magazine is proud to present racing legends, who are an inspiration to our readers, with an accolade which pays tribute to their significant contributions to the sport.”
Last year eight founding members of the Hall of Fame were announced including Tazio Nuvolari, Enzo Ferrari, Juan Manuel Fangio, Sir Stirling Moss, Jim Clark, Sir Jackie Stewart, Ayrton Senna and Michael Schumacher
Afterwards Tony Brooks, Jacky Ickx, Ron Dennis and Mario Andretti were all then inducted into our ‘virtual’ Hall of Fame. “It’s a real privilege,” said Andretti on stage. “As a matter of fact, on the way up here I was thinking ‘how am I going to describe this?’ and the only way I think I can is that this is… delicious.
“In moments like this you start reflecting and thinking how everyone who’s been celebrated here this evening started with a dream. Some people were not able to completely fulfil their dreams, and that’s why I consider myself the luckiest man in the world, being able to stand here and say that I really was able to fulfil them all. I don’t take anything for granted and I count my blessings every day.”
Stirling Moss was equally thrilled to be counted as one of the eight founding Hall of Fame members: “I started reading Motor Sport avidly in 1947 or thereabouts, and I haven’t missed an issue since then. It’s an exceptionally good magazine,” he said. “To be invited to the opening Motor Sport Hall of Fame, where I was awarded a founding membership, was an absolute delight for me. I can’t wait to attend again in 2011 and find out who the next inductees will be.”
I am sure you are all as equally eager to find out who the next four inductees will be. Well, you’ll just have to wait until February 15.
