The Singapore Grand Prix was a spectacular and award-winning addition to the Formula 1 calendar in 2008. The championship’s first flood-lit night race was held on the city’s public roads adjacent to its Marina Bay. Team-mate Nelson Piquet jr later admitted to having spun into the wall on purpose to hand Alonso a race winning advantage once the inevitable safety car was deployed.
