Roger Penske further expanded his retinue of sponsors on Tuesday. In the wake of previous announcements over the past week, Penske’s NASCAR and IndyCar teams confirmed that the Automobile Club of Southern California (AAA) would be an associate sponsor of Kurt Busch’s NASCAR car and Hélio Castroneves Indycar in 2011. Also, the AAA will be Busch’s primary sponsor in three races at the California Speedway (known these days as the Auto Club Speedway), Kansas and Texas Motor Speedways, and Castroneves’s primary sponsor at Long Beach and the Texas Motor Speedway.

The Automobile Club of Southern California is part of Auto Club Enterprises, which has more than 13 million members in 22 states and is the largest member of the AAA’s federation of America’s motor clubs. The Auto Club sells automobile, home and life insurance policies and provides emergency roadside assistance to its members. The AAA has been in business for more than 100 years and was the original sanctioning body for the Indy 500 and Indycar championship from 1909-55.

As we said earlier this week, Team Penske is thriving in a time when many other American race teams are struggling to find sponsorship. The Captain continues to set the pace.
