Le Mans has brought the Aston Martin Racing V8 Vantage GTE the greatest of success, but also tragic lows
“It’s been a rollercoaster, that’s for sure,” says Darren Turner, who helped pilot the Aston Martin Vantage to the podium at its very first Le Mans in 2012. Five years on and in what is expected to be the Vantage’s final season as a works entry, he secured the car’s first GTE-Pro class victory alongside Jonny Adam and Daniel Serra after a thrilling closing-laps duel against Corvette.
Turner gave AMR his take on art cars and co-driving with the nephew of his childhood hero, plus he reveals how the team coped with the tragedy of Allan Simonsen’s death in 2013.
