Romain Grosjean has confirmed he will drive for the Dale Coyne Racing IndyCar team in 2021.

After being ejected from Haas F1 team after five seasons with them and ten in F1 in total, the Frenchman has decided to look stateside for his next racing challenge.

Dale Coyne Racing, who have linked up with Rick Ware Racing in part ownership of the entry, will campaign Grosjean in the No51 Honda at 13 road and street course races.

The Frenchman will not compete on the three ovals at Texas, Indianapolis and World Wide Technology Raceway.

“I’m very excited for this opportunity to race in the United States in the NTT IndyCar Series,” said Grosjean. “I had different options in front of me for this coming season and choosing to go IndyCar Racing was definitively my favourite one. Although, I’m not ready yet to take on the ovals!

“IndyCar has a much more level playing field than what I have been used to in my career so far. It will be exciting to challenge for podiums and wins again. My left hand is still healing, but we are just about ready to get back into the race car and to start this next chapter of my career.”

Rick Ware expressed his delight at securing the services of an F1 veteran with 180 starts to his name.

“We’re thrilled to be entering our first full season of NTT IndyCar Series racing with Dale Coyne Racing, and to have a driver of the caliber of Romain Grosjean to run the street and road courses makes it that much more exciting for us. We’re looking forward to this season,” he said.

The first IndyCar running for Grosjean will be at the Barber Motorsports Park on February 18th.

After suffering injuries to his hands during a horrific fiery crash at last year’s Bahrain Grand Prix, the former Haas, Lotus and Renault driver is likely to find driving 2.2-litre twin-turbo V6 power with no power-steering a challenge.

Grosjean is set to make his race debut for the team at the season-opening race at Barber on April 11th.
