Indy 500 qualifying

Indianapolis, Indiana

To describe Indy 500 qualifying as nail-biting doesn’t do justice to the drama of the two-day spectacle. It ended with a downcast Fernando Alonso eliminated from the race a week before it starts – missing out on the last, 33rd, place on the grid by 0.019mph – and Simon Pagenaud celebrating pole position.

Le Mans, France

W Series

Zolder, Belgium

Jamie Chadwick remains the W Series championship leader, but the weekend didn’t go entirely her own way. The British driver took pole, then lost the lead to Beitske Visser at the start. It set up a gripping duel for much of the race.

NASCAR

Charlotte, North Carolina

Kyle Larson takes his first victory of the season from the back of the grid to win $1 million in the non-championship All-Star Race.

The short race ended in fisticuffs between Ryan Newman and Clint Bowyer.

BTCC

Thruxton, Hampshire

A double victory for Andrew Jordan helps the BMW driver forget about the disappointment of sitting out most of the previous weekend’s action at Donington.

DTM

Zolder, Belgium

Philipp Eng wins his maiden DTM victory in the first two races at Zolder, then the BMW driver finishes second in the closely-fought final – behind René Rast – to top the championship table.

NÜRBURGRING 24HR QUALIFICATION RACE

Nürburgring, Germany

The six-hour qualifying race for next month’s Nürburgring 24 Hours finishes with BMW taking all three podium places, as the winning Walkenhorst Motorsport car makes a late pass to claim victory.

Euroformula Open

Pau, France

A switch from slick tyres to wets after the formation lap dropped Billy Monger to the back of the pack at the Pau Grand Prix. but the decision to pit proved inspired as the 20-year-old double amputee driver stormed through the field to take victory.
