Porsche has signed Antonio Felix da Costa for the 2023 Formula E season, where he will partner Pascal Wehrlein.

Replacing André Lotterer, the Portuguese driver joins after a three-year stint DS Techeetah, which brought him the 2019/20 title there.

Prior to that the former Red Bull junior was with the Andretti team and the Amlin Aguri squad. He has competed in every Formula E season so far, collecting seven races wins and 16 podiums in addition.

“It’s a dream come true,” said da Costa. “I’m really looking forward to cracking on and winning races for this team.

“I’ve been beaten by a Porsche many times in my career, and not only in Formula E, so I know that Porsche does everything to win. It’s in the brand’s DNA.

Da Costa won just one race this season, but now joins a team who finished seventh in the championship, four places below the 30-year-old’s former outfit.

Formula E enters a new era next season with the Gen3 cars, with Porsche seeing the regulation change as a chance to move further up the pecking order.

“I know him from various racing series and I have a lot of respect for him on a personal level. It’s incredibly what he has already achieved in Formula E.

“We’ll do our utmost to give him a competitive Gen3 car so that he can fight for wins and titles. The team is very much looking forward to welcoming him.”

The Portuguese driver also competes in the LMP2 category of the World Endurance Championship for Jota, which will become a Porsche LMDh customer next year.

Although the works Porsche driver line-up has already been confirmed, da Costa’s Formula E move could possibly see him compete for the factory team in the future.
