The week in motor sport (18/04/2011)

Another ‘week in motor sport’ episode where I talk to the editor Damien Smith about Lewis Hamilton’s stunning victory in the Chinese Grand Prix, Mark Webber’s rise through the field and the new ‘gimmicks’ in F1 like the DRS and KERS.

We also discuss Mike Conway’s first IndyCar win, Sebastien Ogier’s second WRC win on the trot and Silverline Chevrolet’s effort to get Jason Plato’s car ready for race 3 in the BTCC at Donington. Oh, and we also touch on two future Grand Prix champions who have just started karting.

The week in motor sport

Sir,

I have enjoyed Motor Sport for the last four years, and would like to thank you for your increased interest in and reporting of US racers. Your recent articles on the glory days and stars of Indy are greatly appreciated.

I was especially moved by your obituary of Dale Earnhardt in the April 2001 issue. Obviously he was a favourite here in the US, but I was touched to learn he was a star over there, too. Even though he started his own team, Dale continued to drive for the man who was there for him from the beginning, Richard Childress. That is a testament to his loyalty, and reveals the kind of man he was. Thank you for your kind words.

I AM, YOURS ETC,

Scott A. Lewis, Minneapolis, USA

We hope you enjoy it and – as always – do let us know your views.
