If F1 did Spring Break…. The arrival of grand prix racing in Miami has already seen Pierre Gasly trying his hand at graffiti, Lewis Hamilton swapping catwalk couture for a golfing polo shirt, and Lando Norris sporting a crop top along with team-mate Daniel Ricciardo.
Some may see it as a racing-themed music festival. Most are amused by the vinyl water-side marina, but come Sunday, when the celebrities are cleared from the grid, all eyes will be on the racers.
The 2022 F1 season doesn’t need a trackside beach club and monster DJ booth/podium, there’s entertainment enough from the Max Verstappen / Charles Leclerc title battle, which closed up at Imola after an error from the hard-pushing Leclerc in slippery conditions.
He’s one of many with a point to prove in Florida. After a series of mishaps, Carlos Sainz is fighting to avoid being relegated to No2 driver and it’s a similar story with Sergio Perez. Mercedes and Lewis Hamilton have ruled themselves out of this year’s title race, but if car upgrades can unlock the pace the team thinks it has, then don’t rule out a crowd-pleasing appearance by Lewis Hamilton on the podium.
There’s W Series racing too, as the all-female grid lines up for the first time this year.

Highlights Channel 4 is showing highlights of qualifying and the Grand Prix, although the time difference means you’ll have to wait until Sunday morning to see the first session, and the early hours of Monday for the race.

Who will win?
Red Bull had the edge on Ferrari at Imola, but both teams come into the Miami Grand Prix weekend with car upgrades. So close is the performance gap, that a small gain could easily swing the balance.
