Formula 1 is dipping its toe into the gaming waters
The esports momentum continues apace with Formula 1 joining the fray with a new F1 Esports Series.
The series will be held on Formula 1 2017, released by creators Codemasters on Friday August 25 for PS4, Xbox One and PC.
The premise is simple enough. September will see ‘qualifying events’ that will whittle down to the fastest 40. These will then contest live semifinals at the Gfinity Arena in London on October 10 and 11, with the best 20 going on to Abu Dhabi for the final on the real-world season-ending weekend on November 24-25.
The winner will then be immortalised in the 2018 edition of the game as the ‘Formula 1 Champion Expert for 2018’ and gain automatic entry into next year’s semis.
Registration opens soon at www.f1esports.com
McLaren is already involved in the gaming world with its own World’s Fastest Gamer contest. Nissan was the first to do something similar, its GT Academy unearthed Lucas Ordóñez, Jann Mardenborough and Wolfgang Reip during its successful campaign.
