Daniel Ricciardo kept McLaren top of the time sheets after again running fastest in the morning session, following Lando Norris’s quickest time yesterday, whilst there were problems for Red Bull.

Sergio Perez stopped on track at Turn 13, causing the very first red flag of 2022 pre-season testing. The Mexican’s fastest time of 1min 22.412 was the eight fastest of the day so far, his breakdown after turning in 38 laps.

A circuit of 1min 20.355sec put the Ricciardo on top, two tenths ahead of Ferrari’s Carlos Sainz. The Scuderia again looked strong as the Spaniard completed the most laps in the morning at 71.

In third was Pierre Gasly, also with a sizeable effort of 60 laps. His time of 1min 20.764sec was a further two tenths off Sainz.

Alex Albon continued to reacquaint himself with F1 after joining Williams, setting a 1min 21.521sec whilst four tenths off the Thai-British driver was Lance Stroll.

Within half a tenth of the Aston Martin was Mick Schumacher’s Haas, the American team getting more solid running after yesterday’s stop-start session – the German turned in 65 laps.

Valtteri Bottas attempted to make up for yesterday’s paltry offering from Alfa Romeo, a 1min 22.288sec the quickest of his 21 laps – good enough for seventh on the board.

Lewis Hamilton clocked 40 laps, a tenth off Bottas, whilst Ocon was a further seven tenths off.
