Aston Martin has revealed its 2022 Formula 1 car, as team co-owner Lawrence Stroll restated his ambition to be challenging for the championship within five years.

The AMR-22 gives some indication of how Aston’s designers have interpreted this year’s new technical regulations, with distinctive ventilation louvres, tightly-packaged engine cover and chiselled sidepods.

But Andrew Green, the team’s chief technical officer said that he expected the car to evolve throughout the season.

“What we’re seeing here is the first iteration of AMR22. Everyone will be on a steep learning curve, no-one’s got all of the answers yet so I think we’re going to see this car develop highly over the coming season.

“It’s an exciting time to be in Formula 1, also nerve-wracking.”

Drivers Sebastian Vettel and Lance Stroll remain with the team this season, attending the reveal at Aston Martin’s Gaydon factory, along with Stroll Sr.

“We are continuing our journey to the summit of Formula 1 and we want to win,” said Lawrence Stroll. “We know that winning is not easy. That’s why we have a five year plan to keep climbing and get to the top.

“To win in Formula 1, everything has to be in the right place and a lot of moving parts have to come together.

“You need the right people in every part of the team and you need the right partners to help make it all possible.”

Stroll said that Aston Martin’s new Silverstone factory will be operating from next year, describing it as the “world’s most technically advanced motorsport headquarters” noting first class facilities for design and engineering, as well as catering.
