Alpine has unveiled its new A522 F1 car, showing the renders of its 2022 challenger via a livestream from Paris.

The French team has opted for push-rod suspension at the front and pull-rod suspension at the rear, a single-pilon rear wing design, narrow sidepod inlets and a shorter nose than some rivals ’22 efforts.

The car features a new blue and pink livery combining the traditional colours of Alpine with its new title sponsor BWT. The A522 will be coloured with a large amount of pink for the first two races, before reverting to Alpine’s blue scheme for the rest of the season.

Two-time world champion Fernando Alonso and last year’s Hungarian GP winner Esteban Ocon were present, along with Alpine boss Laurent Rossi, new team principal Otmar Szafnauer and technical chief Matt Harman.

“We have multiple ambitions – fifth is the minimum we need to target after last year’s performance,” said Rossi

“So far, we have hit our targets and we are happy with the progress we are showing, but we have to be realistic that this year all the cards are thrown in the air. We don’t know where we are going to be until we all hit the track.

“However, what we all need to bear in mind is that where we start isn’t important; it’s where we finish. We need to continue to show improvement, targeting operational excellence and progress throughout the year.”

With almost all other F1 teams now having revealed their actual new ’22 cars either via launches or shakedowns (be they more public or cladestine), Alpine elected to display its 2022 car, but only via digital images – saying that the final machine was being completed in Barcelona before the first pre-season test, which starts on Wednesday.

The expectation on the ’22 car will be to perform more consistently than last year, with its predecessor the A521 at times delivering podiums whilst languishing in the midfield on other days.
