AlphaTauri has revealed its 2023 F1 livery in a short video sequence that supposedly showed the car being helicoptered into New York in a box before a final shot showed the new colour scheme and its drivers, Yuki Tsunoda and new recruit Nyck de Vries.

A series of models also promoted the fashion company’s clothing range but unlike sister team Red Bull‘s extended launch event, it was all over in 2min 19sec of footage without a single comment from any team personnel.

New sponsor Orlen sees the introduction of red sections underneath the sidepods, on the rear wing and halo, while the blue-white ratio of last year’s livery has been adjusted in favour of the darker colour.

There’s little else to comment on until the 2023 car breaks cover later this month.

2022 season was derailed for AlphaTauri in a number of ways

AlphaTauri began the 2022 season with four consecutive points finishes, and then only scored again in four more races that year.

The overweight car was quickly overhauled by other teams as they got to grips with F1’s new regulations, and development on the AlphaTauri stalled.

There were complaints about the drivability of the car from both drivers, with just a fifth place at the Azerbaijan Grand Prix the season highlight and a final place of ninth in the constructors’ championship.

AlphaTauri’s hopes for 2023

More points is a must for the sister team to the reigning world champions, and there are several factors that should see the team able to fight further forward.

Last year was the first full season where AlphaTauri was using Red Bull’s wind tunnel, and familiarity should help to improve developments. Tsunoda has another year of experience under his belt and new team-mate De Vries showed his potential when he deputised for WilliamsAlex Albon at last year’s Italian Grand Prix.

As with Red Bull, AlphaTauri has opted to keep its new car under wraps until after the launch event, so there will be no clues to its progress until later.

Pierre Gasly was initially contracted to AlphaTauri for 2023 but released to Alpine, filling the slot left by Fernando Alonso. The team initially wanted to sign Colton Herta but the IndyCar star didn’t qualify for a superlicence, which left an opening opening for De Vries, following his impressive Monza appearance.

Tsunoda continues in his third year at the team, where he’ll need to start producing some attention-grabbing drives is he wants to line himself up for any future Red Bull opportunity.
