Saudi Arabia targets top F1 teams and staff as it aims to rival UK’s motor sport valley
With Motor Sport‘s first ever track day rapidly approaching, here’s an idea of what you’ll be getting up to on the day itself
Thruxton plays host to the first ever Motor Sport track day on October 5 – the perfect opportunity to find out just how well your car performs on Britain’s fastest circuit. Along with a crack team of Thruxton’s racing instructors to help you on the day, TV star and former F1 driver Tiff Needell will be there to give you tips and advice for getting the most out of the circuit.
Arrival/registration – you’ll be greeted by a member of the Motor Sport team, who’ll get you signed on and ready for the day ahead.
Breakfast – it’s the most important meal of the day, especially just before a day at the track. Breakfast baps will be on offer, along with the opportunity to chat with members of the Motor Sport editorial team and also the team from Heritage F1.
Driver’s briefing – the essential full safety brief for the day ahead from Thruxton’s team.
Tiff’s Top tips – your chance to quiz the man himself. Racing line, braking points, corner entry – all key information that will bring down your laps times and help you get the best out of the day.
Track and skid pan sessions begin – you’ll be split into groups and directed by Thruxton’s staff for your sessions.
During the sessions you’ll have the opportunity to…
Lunch time! Fuel up for the afternoon in Thruxton’s brand new hospitality suite, with a full buffet lunch on offer, plus beverages. This is also the perfect time to catch up with Tiff after the morning sessions and get some analysis on your lap times, lines and more.
You’ll also have the opportunity to chat to our sponsors, Classic & Sports Finance, to discuss that all important matter when it comes to buying a cherished classic, sports, vintage or race car – the cost!
Back to it – the afternoon sessions commence. Once again you’ll go out in your groups and have the entire afternoon to improve on your morning times.
It’s also another opportunity to quiz our editorial team on all things motor racing. With decades of experience in the motoring industry between them, it’s your chance to get that burning question answered!
More fuel for you – afternoon tea is served, with a sugary boost available through cakes and scones while you wait for your next session on track.
All good things must come to an end we’re afraid – and the last session of the day will finish at 5pm sharp.
Joining us on the day is Motor Sport scribe Andrew Frankel, who’s bringing along the brand new Alpine A110. The new Alpine was named ‘road car of the year’ at the 2018 Hall of Fame awards. Can you lap quicker than him? Here’s your chance to find out…

Heritage F1 will be displaying their HF1-018, supposedly the fastest track day car in the world. Built from original 2011-12 genuine race-used Formula 1 chassis, and powered by a turbocharged four-cylinder Mountune prepared engine, it produces 400-650bhp and is a seriously impressive piece of kit.
Read all this, and not attending? Fear not! There are still a few spaces left on the day. Prices start from £259, and tickets are available here.
