“We are glad that there are no cases of the virus in Austin and recognise that the risks of getting sick are very low, however, an international event of this sort presents logistics concerns, travel commitments, and significant advance planning.
“All tickets purchased will be valid for the November event. While we greatly appreciate the ongoing support and patronage of the fans, we recognise and some ticket holders may need a refund. COTA will honour any such request.”
Five riders and five of the 11 MotoGP teams are based in Italy, which is now in full lockdown to prevent further spread of the virus.
The race is now scheduled to take place on November 15, with the Valencia Grand Prix moving back a week to November 22 instead.
