The 2020 Silverstone Classic is set to be a ‘greatest hits’ showcase of historic racing from throughout the festival’s history.

Five of the confirmed grids for this year’s event are from the original 1990 race meeting card in a recreation of the first-ever two-day retro racing festival.

Historic Grand Prix cars, ’50s sportscars, historic Formula Junior, SuperSports and the FIA European Challenge for Historical Touring Cars will all feature as part of the line-up for the 2020 edition, with 20 further races celebrating the heritage of the Silverstone Classic.

HSCC’s Historic Formula 2 Series held its inaugural event at the 2019 festival and will return this year while the Transatlantic Trophy for Pre ’66 Touring Cars will field a capacity grid.

Iconic racing cars from the original 1990 meet will be on track throughout the two days including Jaguar D-types, Maserati 250Fs, Alfa Romeo GTAs and McLaren Can-Am cars.

With the continued popularity of the event, several grids will feature more than 50 starters across multiple categories of racing.

“With three more decades to honour, plus a growing love for all things nostalgic, the historic racing scene has enjoyed incredible growth since Silverstone hosted its very first festival back in 1990; the core ingredients of great cars and sparkling action are still very much at the heart of the event,” said Silverstone Classic CEO, Nick Wigley.

“It was always our ambition to mark the 30th anniversary with a terrific feast of ‘greatest hits’ races, and to have both cars and stars from the original 1990 Classic back on the bill for 2020 will just further enhance the celebrations of what’s an important milestone in motor sport history.”

Early bird tickets to this year’s Silverstone Classic are currently available to purchase until the end of March.
