The first footage from Gran Turismo 7 has been shown at a Sony event to announce the forthcoming Playstation 5.

The short trailer shows expected improvements to graphics, with detailed car interiors, rich scenery and dazzling light effects, but few changes to the popular gameplay of the worldwide hit game.

A Porsche 917 features prominently, indicating an expansion of the current car list – potentially with a larger number of classic sports and racing cars.

The footage also reveals the return of much-missed elements from earlier versions of the games.

At least one of the of original tracks will make a comeback. Most of the in-game footage is based at Trial Mountain, which has appeared in every Gran Turismo version except the current Gran Turismo Sport.

A used car garage is also shown in the menu, bringing back the option of cars that aren’t available at dealerships.

Cars can be properly upgraded too. Unlike the arcade-style level-up feature in Sport, Gran Turismo 7 will once again give you the ability to swap out parts. Air filters, exhausts, suspension, flywheels and brakes were among the parts shown in the trailer.

The livestream of Sony’s event featured Kazunori Yamauchi, Gran Turismo’s creator, who made a brief statement to highlight the campaign mode in the new game, saying that it “should be something fun that people look forward to”.

The feature was dropped for the launch of Gran Turismo Sport and only partially restored with an update that added the GT League.

No date was given for the game’s release, but it is expected to be after the PlayStation 5 goes on sale towards the end of this year.
