Netflix has released the first trailer for Season 4 of the hit Formula 1 docu–series Drive to Survive.

The 2021 title fight between Lewis Hamilton and Max Verstappen was one of the most dramatic and intense seen grand prix racing, with many deeming it the best ever.

As a result the latest instalment of DtS, which is released on March 11, has been hugely anticipated.

The trailer features the three on-track clashes between Hamilton and Verstappen, the unalloyed opinions of team bosses Toto Wolff and Christian Horner, plus Lewis Hamilton describing F1 as “constant warfare”.

The ‘DtS‘ effect, combined with 2021’s thrilling battle for the F1 crown, has been sighted as one of the main reason’s for the explosion in grand prix racing’s popularity over the last year. Last season’s US GP in Austin, Texas, drew in a crowd of 400,000 across the weekend – a championship record.

However the series, which has become the fastest-watched in the history of Netflix, is not without its detractors. Some have complained about what they see as manipulated drama, Verstappen said he withdrew from S4 due to what he described as “fake storylines” and a number of people blamed the controversial ending to year’s title battle in Abu Dhabi as a result of F1’s desire to keep on pushing the ‘Netflix-feel’ of the championship.

That said, the behind-the-scenes documentary has provided insight never before seen in F1, with moments in previous series including Valtteri Bottas musing regularly on being bested by team-mate Hamilton, the fallout of Daniel Ricciardo’s departure from Renault and Romain Grosjean’s near-fatal crash at Bahrain 2020.
