There are no white lines or barriers, crowds watch from behind roadside bushes and the mountains behind provide a majestic backdrop. You can almost feel the warm sun on your back.

A lost era of racing is captured in a new book, Racing Through Europe, which showcases the incredible photographic archive of Brian Joscelyne.

The atmosphere, characters and colour of European racing in the 1950s to ’70s bursts into life in the 444-page book from Palawan Press. A small selection are shown below and you can see several more in the January 2021 issue of Motor Sport.

Joscelyne had an insatiable enthusiasm for motor sport which manifested itself as an historic racer, team owner, writer and Aston Martin club stalwart. However, it was behind the lens that his passion truly took flight.

Whilst running the family firm as a day job, Joscelyne spent his spare time traversing the length and breadth of Europe, snapping historic motorsport moments in stunning locations as disparate at the Nürburgring, Pau and Montjuïc Park.

All 475 of the rarely-seen pictures used in the book are in colour, with captions written by David Tremayne.
