That near death thing
Inside the TT: The world’s most dangerous race by Rick Broadbent
There’s no denying that I am a huge if fan. Ever since I first saw the bikes in action going through Creg-ny-Baa I have consumed DVDs and books on the island race. This latest one from The Times writer Rick Broadbent is perhaps the best of all.
It follows the big names John McGuinness, Guy Martin, Conor Cummins and Michael Dunlop through the races in 2010 and 2011. There’s plenty that will be familiar if you’ve seen TT: Closer to the Edge, but there may also be much you didn’t know. The disdain some of the riders have for the most famous, Guy Martin (who has yet to win a 7), and the drive behind Michael Dunlop who so wants to prove he’s more than just Joey Dunlop’s nephew, are revealing. I seem to have consumed every if-related book/article/video clip so far, but this one is a cracker. EF
