Aston prototype to race again

The troublesome Aston Martin AMR-One will race on after being given the allclear by a team of outside consultants.

Aston Martin Racing brought in the consultants to review the car’s straight-six turbocharged engine as well as the aerodynamics and chassis after its disastrous Le Mans 24 Hours laps. Their conclusions were described as “a big boost to the team” by Aston Martin’s chairman David Richards, whose Prodrive organisation encompasses AMR. “This is something I have

done before on projects because sometimes you need someone else to tell you whether you are heading in the right direction or not,” said Richards. “They have said that there is nothing fundamentally wrong with either the engine or the chassis; nothing that can’t be put right with a bit of time and money.”

Richards hinted that AMR could use the V12-engined Lola-based coupes it raced in 2009-10 in the remainder of the Intercontinental Le Mans Cup, starting at Silverstone in September.
