R1VI AUCTIONS —

The Canadian auction house has confirmed some interesting lots for its US Monterey sale on August 19/20. For American race car fans there is one of three 1969 ‘Stars and Stripes’ Chevrolet Corvettes up for sale (above, £466-590,000). This particular car won the GT class in the 1972 Watkins Glen Six Hours and raced in the 1973 Sebring 12 Hours, Daytona and Le Mans 24 Hours, where it achieved an astonishing GT class record of 215mph on the Mulsanne. Among 20 Ferraris included in the sale is another ‘one of three’. The 1952 340 Mexico Vignale coupe (below) was built specifically for the 1952 Carrera Panamericana (POA) and will be joined by the 1954 750 Monza Scaglietti

spider that starred in the film On the Beach. The Monza carries an estimate of £1.5-2 million.

Other interesting lots are a 1937 MercedesBenz 540K Special roadster (POA), a 1937 Bugatti Type 57 roadster (£620-800,000) and Steve McQueen’s 1970 Porsche 911S (POA) which featured in his film Le Mans. RM had a good sale at Syon Park in London on June 23, generating sales of over £5.1m. Its

top seller was the 1929 Bentley Speed Six Le Mans-style tourer which went for £470,400, while a 1961 Aston Martin DB4 Vantage convertible (£431,200) and a 1926 Rolls-Royce Phantom I Experimental Sports Tourer (£392,000) also sold well.
