BONHA1VIS

Its Goodwood Festival of Speed sale was considered “one of the best ever” by Bonhams’ head of motoring, James Knight. Even without a multi-million pound car, the auction house posted £7.25m during the sale.

Top of the pile was the ex-Innes Ireland Bertone-bodied 1954 Aston Martin DB2/4 which went for £606,500, while the ex-Jack Perkins 1925 Bugatti Type 35B Grand Prix car changed hands for £430,500.

Various road-going Astons also sold well, and in terms of racers there was the ex-Spike Anderson 1973 Datsun 240Z ‘Super Samuri’ coupe (£56,500), a 1926 Bugatti Type 37 monoposto (£197,300) and Gerry Marshall’s 1971 Vauxhall Firenza ‘Old Nail’ that went for just £47,700 — surely modest for such fame?
