DC adds to DTM’s affractions

THE DTM WILL MAKE ITS ANNUAL TRIP TO BRANDS Hatch on September 4. At the time of writing only Three points separated Canadian Bruno Spengler and German Martin Tomczyk at the top of the championship table. No surprises there though, as The DTM is always hotly contested. Last year current Force India driver Paul di Resta won the championship, but it was only by four points after 11 rounds. Before di Resta successfully made the move to Formula 1, the DTM was considered a cul-de-sac in terms of a racing driver’s career. If the current crop of drivers needed any more incentive to win

The German-based championship, then they certainly have it now.

The machines may look like touring cars, but underneath the silhouette shell lurks some seriously powerful machinery a 470bhp V8 to be precise and on the tight and twisty Brands Hatch Indy circuit they are a sight to behold. This year is also ex-F1 driver David Coulthard’s second season in the championship. The current BBC Fl commentator (below) has had a tough start getting used to the cars, but has already showed signs of significant improvement and picked up his first point at the Norisring in July with an eighthplace finish. Coulthard isn’t the only Brit in the

championship, though. Gary Paffett, Oliver Jarvis, Jamie Green and Susie Stoddart will also be racing and will no doubt be given a warm reception when they exit the pitlane for the first time and hammer up to Druids. If you haven’t seen what these racers look

and sound like when they sweep through Paddock Hill Bend on a hot lap then you are missing one of motor sport’s delights.

Race day tickets start at £25 and can be bought at www.brandshatch.co.uk or by calling 0843 453 9000.
