Series that are a world apart

The French manufacturer has two major series which between them can helo a criver through to the top echelon of the sport BY ED FOSTER the Formula Renault 2.0 and 3.5 championships, the French manufacturer provides two vital branches on our motor racing Money Tree. Formula Renault 2.0 is a ‘slicks and wings’ entry-level series that has nurtured the

likes of Lewis Hamilton and master of the overtake, Kamui Kobayashi.

In 2005 Renault created The World Series by Renault, which is not to be confused with the Formula Renault 3.5 championship. WSR is a 100 per cent Renault race meeting that includes the 2.0 and 3.5-litre singleseater championships, as well as the Clio Cup and Megane Trophy.

FRenault 3.5 is a perfect stepping-stone to GP2 or, more often, Fl. You only need to look on the next page to see the calibre of driver it produces. The £620-850,000 price tag for a season of racing may seem like a lot, but compare it to GP2 (£1.3-1.7m) and it starts to look like very good value.
