The re-opening meeting for Donington Park, the masters festival on September 3-5, will feature drivers and hopefully cars from the circuit’s previous re-opening event in May 1977.

The Masters organisation is trying to track down drivers from the first race meeting when the track re-opened under the ownership of Tom Wheatcroft. The Nottingham Sports Car Club meeting featured a typical bill of 1970s club racing and Alistair Lyall won the inaugural race in his special saloon Ford Escort Mk1. Drivers who competed that day are being offered free admission in September.

“If any of those drivers are still racing, they can enter the ‘Masters 1977 Opening Revival’ race for saloons and GTs,” said Christopher Tate of the Masters organisation.

The weekend will feature all of the Masters series, topped by races for Grand Prix Masters, World Sportscar Masters and the Interserie Revival.
