Climbers celebrate at Shelley Walsh

Sixty years of the British Hillclimb Championship will be celebrated at Shelsley Walsh on August 19, when up to eight former champions and cars from the 60-year history of the championship will be in action.

After practice runs on Friday and a regular round of the British Championship round on Saturday, Sunday will be given over to an entry of about 140 cars telling the story of the championship.

Classes for cars up to 1947, 1967, 1987 and 2007 will be included, along with approximately 20 pre-war cars to demonstrate the lead-up to the creation of the championship for the 1947 season.

The earliest of the champions competing will be Tony Marsh, who took the first of his six titles in 1955. He will campaign the Marsh Special that took him to three titles in the 1960s. Other former hillclimb champions competing include Martyn Griffiths, Roy Lane, David Franklin and Ray Rowan.
