The newest in Haynes’ car makes series NEWEST IN HAYNES’ CAR MAKES SERIES is John Reynolds’ Citroën — Daring To Be Different (ISBN 1 859 60 5, 219.99). I like it very much. It’s a study of every Citroën model, from the 1919 10hp Model A to the XM range, including many prototypes and the elongated Maserati-engined SM cabriolets built for President Pompidou.

All this, with details of each design change, is presented in top-class style, backed up by an enormous number of photographs, many in colour. Plus an account of Andre Citroën and how, after his gear-cutting business, he became a celebrated car producer and instigator of the traction avant Citroëns.

The book also provides specification tables, buying tips and hints, and details of research programmes, each model being given its own designated section. The ‘Double Chevron’ in competition is here, too.

Reynolds himself has driven Citroëns for over 20 years and he proffers his driving impressions.

His book is announced as the first comprehensive overview of Citroëns ever published in English. I cannot argue with that.
