Grand Prix Gridlock

Sir,

In your article concerning Silverstone’s Thoroughbred Grand Prix support race at the British Grand Prix (August issue) you state that the 1953 German Grand Prix, with 34 starters, had the highest number of cars to start a Formula One race.

This cannot be true since that race, along with all of the world championship events held in 1952 and ’53, was run to Formula Two regulations.

May I suggest that the largest starting field in a Formula One race was the 32 starters at the 1961 Italian Grand Prix?
