Bira remembered

Your August issue of MOTOR SPORT exceeded all of my expectations by including articles on two significant drivers in my life.

In Canada I watched Gilles Villeneuve win in Formula Atlantic before moving to Ferrari where I watched him again in Long Beach, California in 1979. A great driver, a great loss to the sport.

The other article was even more significant, since, as a schoolboy I watched Prince Bira fly his glider at the small airport outside Plymouth where I lived at the time. Chula’s books on Bira’s racing career became my introduction to the world of motor racing, an interest that remains to this day.

The article by Robert Edwards bought back many memories of Bira and his bright blue and yellow racing cars. A sad ending to such a gifted driver.

I have been a regular reader of MOTOR SPORT since 1948, and still eagerly await each issue. Since I have my copies bound each year I await your next changes with anticipation and trepidation!
