The Land’s End to John o’Groats Reliability Trial for historic and classic cars will take place from December 3-7.

An event which turns back the clock as much as it can, it will include regularity sections, night navigation legs, autotests, trials-type stops and restarts, acceleration and braking tests, a top gear slow-running test and a lap time consistency contest on a race circuit.

The whole thing is very informal, although the various tests are expected to be contested closely. The start will be at Land’s End at 8.00 on the Saturday and the 1600 mile route northwards will include day and night running, via one night stop at Edinburgh.

Finish at John o’Groats will be in the morning of the Tuesday. Main Time Controls and supper/breakfast halts will be at Porlock, Severn Bridge, Machynlleth, Lancaster, Richmond (Yorks), Otterburn, Edinburgh, Dalwhinnie, Fort Augustus and Durness.

Whatever the level of your skill, this is an event which cannot fail to appeal. Those who will be there just for the socialising will be just as welcome as those who intend to be seriously competitive. Entertainment is as high on the list of priorities as competition. Already entered at the time of writing is as impressive a line-up of fine machinery as you will see on any historic event, and there is still plenty of space for many more.
