The Rolls-Royce EC had its best ever National Rally on June 14, with over 1200 Rolls-Royce and Bentley cars present. Next year it celebrates the convincing success of the Alpine Eagle cars in the 1913 Austrian Alpine Trial and we hear that at this early date there is a firm entry of 73 Silver Ghosts.

We hear that a two-stroke FWD DKW three-wheeler, possibly a Bol d’Or racer, is running about in France, and that a straight-eight engine from a Leyland Eight luxury car, probably one of only two extant, may have found a new home after release from a North Country Museum. The other such engine is in the British Motor Heritage’s ex-Tennant, ex-Sir Lionel Phillips’ Leyland Eight two-seater.

The Brooklands Museum has had to postpone its Brooklands Le Mans Run until October 8/11, due to the intervention of the Maastricht referend urn!

When Sainsbury’s opened its new coffee-shop at the Causeway, Staines on July 27, a plaque was unveiled by A Davey of the Lagonda Club, recalling the fact that this was the site of the Lagonda factory from 1904-1939. Club members attended the ceremony with their Lagondas.

The Sunbeam Talbot Alpine Register’s Star Rally for vintage and classic cars takes place over a 75-mile route on October 16, divided into nine classes and with an optional run over a two-mile banked circuit. Proceeds go to the BBC Children in Need Appeal. Entries, at £47 per car including lunch, close on October 6. Details from R Checkley, 7 Bamfield, New Malden, Surrey KT3 5RH. The event finishes at Chertsey. The event has raised £5000 in the past three years.

The VCC’s NE section has its rally, based in Richmond, Yorkshire, takes place from October 2-4, over routes followed by JMW Turner in 1797/1831. Expect wonderful scenery. The Museum of British Road Transport Coventry is holding its Shakespeare Run on October 6, led by a 1906 Rover over the 60-mile route.
