Multi-Talented

What a very good letter from Jack Emmott (Motor Sport, July 1988) regarding the Multi-Union and Chris Staniland, whom I knew very well and often met during tuning sessions at the Track.

I enclose a photograph of such an occasion, just prior to the August Bank Holiday Meeting of 1939. Chris is seated in the Multi-Union having a chat with me, but I am not sure who the person on my left is.

I well remember the race to which Jack Emmott refers, since I was driving the Bentley-Jackson. Chris, starting from scratch, gave me 19 seconds start, and on the third lap easily passed me on the inside coming off the Members Banking — and I was lapping at over 130 mph. Yes, he was a marvellous driver and a wonderful person.
