In a sense this little soft-covered book is a shadow of the bigger one brought out by the BRDC to celebrate its Diamond Jubilee, and some of the contents are repeats thereof. But it is very welcome nevertheless, and is enhanced by Denis Jenkinson’s short summaries of the British Grands Prix of 1948-1987, and by some very good pictures — although it is odd that those for the 1971, 1979, 1981 and 1987 races are in colour, while the rest are black-and-white.

This is commendable value for a fiver, including as it does Prost’s method of lapping Silverstone at 160 mph, highlights of car, bike, truck and kart racing, reviews of its star personalities, and details of how the course has been developed and run since it was adapted from a wartime airfield. WB
