Turbocharging has long been in the news, for racing and production engines and this big-page, soft-cover publication shows the extent of its application in the USA. Suggested by the author as the simplest way of increasing the horse-power of a given i.e. engine, he outlines every possible turbocharging application. The text is supported by a great many pictures, graphs, tables and curves and covers road-going cars, racing engines, motorcycles, boats and aeroplanes. Indianapolis 500-Mile Race applications are not neglected.

However, the professional aspect apart, in America turbocharging is big business and this book may surprise many people here as it discusses the installation of all the popular commercially-available turbochargers to engines of up to 500 CID. Selection of appropriate kits, with a long list of manufacturers, and the problems of carburation, exhaust, ignition, controls, inter-cooling, and water-injection .get chapters to themselves. You may care to obtain this book and mug it all up, before the next drag meeting, or next, year’s Fl season !—W.B.

Michael Frostick and Barrie Gill have combined to take a look at “Ford Competition Cars” in a 9 1/4 in. 6 1/2 in., 183-page book published by Foulis at £4.95.

A very interesting review of “Powered Vehicles Made in the Black Country—1900-1930s” has reached us. Written by Jim Boulton, who sells it at £2.00 plus 20p postage. He has collected in its large pages a selection of pictures of both well-known (AjS, Sunbeam, Civno, etc.) and little-known (Cartield, Juckes, Sedan, etc.) and supporting text, of motorcycles, aeroplanes and cornmercial vehicles, as well as cars. There is not a lot of it hut what there is is fascinating and the pictures are reproduced on art paper. A 1921 Rockson sblo with disc wheels and big-twin super-sports Shamir catch the eye, among other rarities.
