Three-wheelers at Silverstone
We are reminded by the August issue of The Bulletin of the Morgan Three-Wheeler Club that last July’s M.C.C. Silverstone Meeting ‘featured an excellent entry of three-wheelers. For instance, Mike Guest ran his Morgan with an MX2 engine after the touring version of 8/75 JTOR power unit, converted to twin carburetters and running to 5,000/ 6,000 r.p.m., had run a big-end in practice. Pete Thompson had a 4-valve Anzani in his Super Aero and Gary Caroline drove his J.A.P. 2-Speeder and managed to hold all but the big Vincent outfits until it ran out of road.
In the second of the Half-Hour High-Speed Trials no fewer than 19 Morgans and a B.S.A. faced the starter, the Morgans including Brian Clutterbuck’s 1924 o.h.v. J.A.P. Super Sports with homemade body, and Brian Fell in an MX-engined Family model. All this is gleaned from the aforesaid Bulletin, which shows what you miss if you have a Morgan and have not joined the Club—Sec., R. S. Richmond, 15, Penn Hill Avenue, Parkstone, Dorset. Come to think of it, for hairy motoring in the pre-war tradition a Morgan three-wheeler is surely THE thing, preferably a pre-1940 model, if possible a vee-twin. But by the time my 1927 Family Model is road-worthy I guess I shall be sufficiently senile to find this as fierce as I might now find an o.h.v. Aero.—W. B.
