The Brooklands Society

A meeting was held at the Motor Sport offices on August 15th to discuss the proposed Brooklands Society, the aims and objects of which are :—

(1): To keep alive and foster interest in and nostalgia for all that happened at the old Motor Course.

(2): To bring together, as Members, those who went to the Track and Aerodrome in the days prior to 1940, and to enrol other interested persons as Associates.

(3): To take steps to preserve relics in the form of pictures, films, documents, etc., relating to this aspect of motor racing and flying history.

(4): To hold meetings, when possible, such as dinners, lectures, film-shows, etc.; and to perhaps revive the Brooklands Re-unions, Should the B.A.C. again permit entry to the Track, if necessary for Members only. Badge’s, ties and similar Society insignia to be made available if requested.

(5): If funds should permit, to publish a magazine (the title of ” The Brooklands Gazette ” has been made available by kind permission of Motor Sport), this to constitute the official journal of the Society, carrying reminiscences’, pictures, etc., contributed by Members and Associates.

Those present were : Miss Betty Haig, Julian Bell of the Dunlop Rubber Co., Bill Boddy, Alan Hess, Roland King-Farlow, Rivers-Fletcher, Stanley Sedgwick, Lord Montagu of Beaulieu, and W. J. Tee, who agreed to become Founder Members. It was proposed that the annual subscription should be £2 for Members, 10s. for Associates, and that a company limited by guarantee should be formed. Subscriptions will run to the end of 1968.

Membership forms will shorty be sent out to those who have already applied, and others who are interested can obtain them from the Motor Sport offices, Standard House, Bonhill Street, London, E.C.2.
