Miniatures news, September 1963

The miniatures continue to flow from the production lines but many of those sent to us recently have been of diggers, earth-moving equipment and the like, to which we have given a miss. But from Corgi comes a frivolous little Ghia-Fiat 600 “Jolly,” that little beach car with sun canopy, occupied by a blonde in a very brief swim-suit and male driver in swimming trunks. No. 270 in the Corgi series, it is just the job to cheer you up on wet English summer days, and it costs 5s. 0d. Another vividly-painted Corgi is No. 465, a Commer Pick-Up. The price of this 3 1/2-in. long miniature is 5s. 6d. Another well-finished-and-strongly-constructed Corgi is a Commer Police Van (very topical for model railway layouts!) with flashing roof light. It is also 3 1/2-in. long and costs 7s. 11d. (spare bulbs 8d.)

Lesney have returned to the car field with their Y-2 “Model of Yesteryear,” which is a very brassy and detailed 1911 8-h.p. Renault 2-seater, a miniature of the actual car found on the estate of Sir John Finlay of Aberlour and subsequently restored. To a Scale of 40:1, this Renault is 3 in. long and is modestly priced at 4s. 0d.—W. B.
