If the Editor hasn’t got a 3.8 Jaguar at least he has a very nice steering wheel for one, this being a sample of one of the special 17-in lightweight, wood-rim wheels produced by VW Derrington Ltd at the request of the Jaguar Company for use to special order on Mk II cars. These steering wheels weigh only 20 oz without boss, have polished frames of Birmabright light alloy, and rims of contrasting laminations of white obeechi and rich red mahogany, french-polished to bring out the full beauty of the grain. It is claimed that these Derrington wheels never get “tacky”, they have finger serrations on the underside. The Jaguar wheel costs £12 15s and takes the standard Jaguar half horn-ring. Similar 16-in wheels with pierced spokes are available for a wide range of fast cars, at prices ranging from £11 to £14, dished spokes costing £1 extra. In addition, 15-in racing-car wheels are supplied to special order at each, and less expensive hide-trimmed steering wheels are supplied to Lotus, Elva, etc, with rims covered in half-round hard rubber section covered with the finest quality Connolly hide, can be obtained for £3 less than the equivalent wood-rim wheels, or with pierced spokes for £2 10s less. These latter wheels are made to special order in 21-28 days and come in red, blue, green. ivory and black. Details from VW Derrington, Ltd, 159-161 and 200, London Road.
