Real Performance
Donald Healey has done it again! Taking a standard Healey aerodynamic saloon out to Milan at the time when Lt.-Col. Gardner and Count Lurani were attacking records on the Milan-Como Autostrada, he had the car timed by the Milan A.C. Using normal pump fuel, with a compression ratio of just under 7 to 1, and with standard 5.75 x 15 tyres, this Healey saloon covered a kilometre at a mean speed of 109.7 m.p.h., and a mile at a mean speed of 110.8 m.p.h., its best run being at 111.87 m.p.h. over the mile. Later, using larger wheels, which rather restricted engine speed, 5 kilos were covered at 107.312 m.p.h. and 5 miles at 107.130 m.p.h. mean speeds, and the s.s. kilo and mile at 67.78 and 77.785 m.p.h., respective mean speeds. Fuel of an octane value between 70 and 72 was again used. These performances place the Healey saloon irrefutably amongst the world’s very fastest cars.
