Co-operative spirit
I read with interest (and sympathy) Ed Foster’s September feature about the ups and downs of his Legends race at Le Mans this year, and how helpful everyone in the paddock was in getting him into the race. The Elstrops are charming people and their mechanic, Andy Phillips, is a great chap.
My Sebring Sprite, pictured in your article and driven by my son and daughter, Charles and India Clegg, blew a head gasket in qualifying and only made it into the race through the sterling efforts of Andy, who just rolled up his sleeves and changed the head gasket. Andy had never met us before, but he did a superb job and the car has just run again successfully at the Silverstone Classic.
As you say in your article, the only competition in historic racing is on the track, not in the paddock.
