is month Nigel wrote about new FIA plan regarding ormula 1 cars running in the pitlane from 2014. “The proposal is that when the new environmentally-friendly 6 turbo engines arrive,” he Wrote, “cars should run on electric power’ only in the pits.” Nigel recalled the time he as almost hit by the silent ightning-Cosworth of Gary ettenhausen as it rolled into the Indy pits in 1981 without its engine running, and s understandably dubious bout ‘silent’ El cars. Mike ogman agreed: “Having marshalled for more years than 1 care to remember, the most angerous time in the pits is hen a car enters with a dead otor. This is a dangerous idea
t odds with the experience of otor racing.”
However, Rob A was not totally against the proposal. ‘Surely there’s a trivial solution, namely to install some sort of evice which makes a noise hen the car is travelling under electric power only?” he said. *Make it a distinctive noise, nd it will be as unmistakable s the rasp of an engine.”
