The Ford GT40 lookalike should be back at the Le Mans 24 Hours in 2011.

The Ford GT, developed for the GT1 class by the Swiss-funded Matech group, took part in the French enduro in June. But a decision by race organiser the Automobile Club de l’Ouest not to invite back the new breed of GT1 cars appeared to have spelt the end of its Le Mans career. Now, Matech has revealed it is developing the Ford to the GT Endurance (currently GT2) rules.

The decision came after Matech boss Martin Bartek slammed the ACO’s decision, announced two days before this year’s race, and vowed not to “spend one penny” adapting the car.
