Prescott hillclimb records rewritten
A record crowd and two significant hill records marked the annual Vintage Sports-Car Club’s Prescott Speed Hill Climb, as over 10,000 spectators and 250 entries crammed into the Gloucestershire venue.
For the intrepid Mark Walker it was a bittersweet weekend as he claimed one new record, but lost another.
Walker was mighty at the wheel of the 1905 Darraq 200hp Land Speed Record-breaking car that he has just restored. His target was the Edwardian record of 51.76sec, set in 2003, and on his first timed run he achieved 47.96sec.
James Baxter set the fastest time of the day with a 40.18sec climb in his 1934 Frazer Nash, breaking the 41.40sec mark set by Walker’s Parker GN in 1997.
