New GT2 corvette in promising debut

A new era began for Corvette Racing at Mid-Ohio when the new GT2 class Chevrolet made its long-awaited debut in the American Le Mans Series.

The new car replaces Corvette Racing’s long-serving GT1 design, the C5-R and rebodied C6.R, which dates back to 1999. The latest Corvette racer, which is also called the C6.R, will follow in the wake of its illustrious predecessor by competing for class honours in the Le Mans 24 Hours.

The new C6.R, which will be up against Ferrari and Porsche rivals in the ultra-competitive GT2 class, is developed around the ZR1 Corvette. That makes it distinct from its predecessor, which was a homologation special built around a non-standard spaceframe chassis.

The car made a strong debut at Mid-Ohio in August, when Jan Magnussen and Johnny O’Connell finished second in class behind a Porsche.
