Clark's Lotus 25 to return to racing

The Lotus 25 which Jim Clark drove to seven Grand Prix victories on his way to winning the 1963 World Championship will race for the first time in decades this summer after selling for close to US $1 million last year.

Chassis R4 was the most successful of the seven 25s built in 1962/63 and has a continuous history, although it is not thought to have raced since 1970 and has spent most of the intervening years in New Zealand and Australia.

Previously owned by the late John Dawson-Damer, R4 now belongs to Australian John Bowers and is being tended by Classic Team Lotus. “The owner wants to see the car race in Europe,” said CTL’s Clive Chapman. “Hopefully it will run at Goodwood and then at Monaco next year.”

Clark won the ’63 Oulton Park Gold Cup in the car and, if engine issues are resolved, it could run at Oulton again at the end of August.
