B&M Aston reborn

Having recorded how the licensing authorities told me that the famous racing Aston-Martin ‘Bunny’ had been scrapped, I have been checking the VSCC membership list to see how many Bamford & Martin Astons have survived.

From a commendably large number of these desirable cars, only six B&M versions are listed, two owned by the Murray family. So it is good to learn that John Milner, who has been looking for a side-valve Aston since the 1950s, was able to buy the mechanical parts of chassis No1944 in 1997. These were in a bad state when brought over from Ireland by Mike Tietze in the 1970s; the car had been dismantled, having not been used for 50 years. It is now running again, with the Reg No XW 751 and is, says its owner, a delight to drive.

A former owner was RH Corbett, who won a gold medal with it in the 1938 JCC Brooklands’ High-Speed Trial.
