Mighty Aston V8 leads Chevy chase

The Camaro of Andy Rouse and Pete Hall continues to set the pace in the Heritage GT events that have become a very popular support to the British Touring Car Championship.

At Brands Hatch in late August, they had to race hard to overcome a concerted challenge from the similar car of Alec Hammond and John Young to win the 30min two-driver race. Only in the closing stages did Rouse finally battle ahead after Young put up a spirited defence. However, in the 20-minute sprint, a stirring performance from Arthur Thurtle kept his Aston Martin V8 narrowly ahead of the Chevy, despite the best efforts of Hall.

Rouse/Hall bagged two more wins at Donington Park in early September, but this time it was young Stuart Hall at the wheel. Racing his father’s car for the first time, the teenager was hugely impressive as he went head to head with Boysie Thurtle in the sprint race and fended off a mighty challenge from the Aston Martin. A spin for Thurtle at the Old Hairpin settled the matter.

In the longer race, Rouse shared the Camaro, but Hall had already done the hard work by establishing a comfortable lead before the pitstops.
