Historic sportscars to support current crop
A series for 1960s and ’70s GTs and sports-prototypes could support the 2004 Le Mans Endurance Series.
FIA GT Championship boss Stéphane Ratel is working to create a mini-series of classic 1000km-style races for contemporary prototypes in Europe next year, and sees an historic race as a perfect foil to the feature event.
Dates are yet to be confirmed, although Silverstone is one of the favoured venues for the four-race series run in conjunction with Le Mans organisers, the ACO.
Ratel is working alongside Patrick Peter on the historic races, which would relive some of the classic event of the era. The Paris-based Peter Auto organisation is well respected for its work on events such as the Tour Auto and the Le Mans Classic, and is likely to attract significant entries for the proposed series.
Monza, the Nürburgring and Spa are the three other venues targeted for the new LMES races.
